Dressing Up For A Date
9:24 PMSince this blog is filled with a ton of work wear posts, I'm assuming I have readers who are in the dating age group. So, to all you gals, we're taking a break from work and getting into a topic I never thought would ever end up on this blog - dressing up for a date.
Naturally, you would want to leave a lasting positive impression on your date especially if it's the first date. But regardless how many dates you've been on, whether you are already a couple or simply starting out, it's nice to clean up nicely every once in a while. With that said, here are some reminders that have come very useful for me - and hopefully will be useful for you, too - when dressing up for a date.
1. Dress for the occasion
Avoid over-dressing or under-dressing. Think about what you will be doing on your date and build an outfit around that. Whether you're going ice skating, watching a movie, or going to a fancy restaurant, make sure your outfit is appropriate. This also means that you have to be careful not to look too vampy. You wouldn't want to leave the wrong impression.
2. Know what looks good on you
When dressing up for a date, pick an outfit that looks good on you. Consider the color, fabric, and cut and take the time to try on different clothes. You'll never know... your favorite color might not be as flattering as you think it is.
3. Practice walking and sitting down
It's not enough that you look amazing in your dress. You also have to practice walking and sitting down because you don't want to risk having a skirt that is too short you have to keep tugging it down or be in a dress you can't even sit down in because while it holds everything together, it's also as stiff as a light post. You must be able to move naturally in what you plan to wear.
4. Wear the right shoes
If you need to be a little more dressy, black or brown heels are always a good choice. It's classic and will likely match whatever you are planning to wear. Besides matching your shoes with your outfit, you also need to wear shoes that are comfortable. You don't want to be limping halfway through your date because your shoes are too high or too tight. Again, practice walking.
5. Keep the hair and make-up to a minimum
Yes, it matters, too. Don't go too crazy on the hair and make-up as well. Wear your hair as you normally would, and keep the styling to a minimum. This isn't the time to experiment on your look, as you want to stick with what you already know. The make-up should also look natural. Don't go too nuts with the eyeshadow and get your brows properly shaped (or do it yourself if you can).

You don't really need to buy a new outfit for a date. Look through your closet and plan ahead to avoid outfit mishaps. Be natural! Going on dates should be a fun experience for you. As long as your outfit flatters you and you can comfortably move, you're safe.
Lastly, have a great time! ;)
Share with me your own tips in the comments section and let's help each other out!

like the makeup, the necklace and the shoes... you look good on that dress, it shows your curves, not really for my body type though. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI just wonder, since you love dressing up.... if you are to get marry, what would you wear in your pre-nup pictorial? how can you look different from your current fashion? hehehe!

Thank you Frances! I feel like the dress is both sexy and classy. Nothing too short, but hugs the body in all the right places :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's from The Ramp lang :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mel! Exactly my point why I included the tip "know what looks good on you" :) I've had shopping mistakes a ton of times before when I'd buy something because it looked good on someone else. Haha
ReplyDeleteI actually think if I'd get married I'd look more casual since I have a pretty formal/put-together style :) Just something laid back and natural. We'll see! I will have to consult my future husband-to-be, too... who still does not exist as of the moment haha ;)
Thank you! :)
