DIY: From Shirt to Skirt

And then you stumble upon days when you're really tired of being 'normal'. Thank goodness fashion is all about innovation and DIYs are the easiest way to start pumping your innovating skills. So one morning when I felt like I've worn my skirts way too many times and thought I needed something fresh, I whipped out a crisp floral button-down and spun some fashion magic to turn it into--voila--A SKIRT!

People at work didn't even know it was a top until I told them (a magician should never share his/her secret, but yeah). Well that must mean I did a pretty decent job. And with that, for those of you interested, I’ll try to post a tutorial on how to recreate this skirt using a button-down! It's going to be fun... and new for me! So stay tuned!

In this previous post, I hinted about a collaboration with an online shop. And now, here I am quick to announce who Style Surgery will be partnering with! If you noticed what I was wearing in the teaser on my right sidebar, that was already a clue! I just can't help my excitement and I'm very happy that they have decided to make a comeback. The Sweetest Thing

I read a tweet from a Zobel batchmate that there was this guy who rented the whole Enchanted Kingdom (a local theme park) just to ask a girl to prom. WITH MATCHING FIREWORKS. Can I just say--I haven't gotten over this tweet up until now! It is so insane and absolutely romantic! I was never asked to prom, so I swoon over moments and stories like this. Needless to say, I enjoyed prom because of my friends.

Now I'm wondering the same thing as everyone else... what will he do as a wedding proposal? It's nice to know there are still guys who make such a grand gesture or even think/plan out how they will ask a girl out (may it be prom, a first date, to be his girlfriend, or to be his wife). Sweet, no?

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who joined my blog anniversary giveaway! I wasn't even really expecting that much responses, but the numbers exceeded my goal so yay! Faux Shaved Side

If your mom says no about shaving the side of your head like Jessica Tran of JessLovesFred, who by the way is my ultimate blogger girl crush, then you find ways to rock the same look without loosing the locks.

While it was more of a hypothetical no for me, I am that sure that I won't be allowed or my mom would get a heart attack if her unica ija gets a extremely short hair or even shave the side of her head. Which is why I'll never get to spin open a jar of hearts--err--wax or gel and overuse it on my head. Such an experience I am missing out on.

In any case, this should make up for what I'm missing. Thank you to my cousin, Ysha (who is now @beyconator on Twitter, after using my well-suggested @beywhatchasay for years), for taking my photos that day! The wonders of properly cropping a photo. Makes it look like I'm some place else! I'll be posting about the whole look next time.

Inside My Head, It's Different

In reality, I'm quiet and think aloud in my head. So everyday to me is a dream.

Yes, I will always and forever be a writer. The things that go on inside my head knows no bounds; I am nothing but thoughts made into a person. Seriously.

Anyway, back to "normal" talking... I love this new top I got from Chick Flick on Multiply! I swear, Multiply's new Marketplace just makes shopping so much easier. I snagged like a lot of things from Chick Flick in just one go and it was delivered immediately! Convenient and fast! What do you think about this print-on-print? It's just as random as what I said above. ;)

There's something about 2012 that got nearly everyone bitten by the love bug. Marriage proposals seem to be popping here and there, especially among my relatives. But let's not mistake this post for me wanting to get married anytime soon, okay? Trust me, that's not in my dictionary for now. However, I would like to congratulate my brother and his fiance and my cousin Chinx and her fiance for getting engaged just recently! :) I'm so excited and happy for them, that they have chosen to settle down and finally start a different chapter in their lives. Though no dates are final yet, I'm looking forward to dressing up for events such as those. I just love getting all prepped up for formal events! That's really my thing, I guess. :P Aside from the recently engaged, I will also be having a soon-to-be married cousin who will be flying in from Canada to be wed here in the Philippines. So a lot of our relatives from abroad will also be coming over! Really looking forward to seeing everyone again. :)

For now, we had a small lunch here at home last week for my cousin Chinx, who is the first to arrive in the Philippines. Congrats again, Ate and Carlo!!

Found it cool how this side of our house looks kind of alley-ish. I really find the contrast in red and blue interesting and rustic or edgy (whichever is the more proper term for it). :P

Bling It On

It's ironic how sometimes I like my outfit better on days when I woke up late rather than when I woke up early (and had that extra couple of minutes to think about what to wear). Seriously. I've had about three outfits worn that I liked the past week but wasn't able to take photos of because I didn't have time for that anymore. Hmm, maybe that extra couple of minutes asleep helped my mind to function creatively better. And, well, as for those unshot outfits, I'll probably remake them and take photos just because. Hah!

For now, here's an outfit I wore to a busy work day! I opted for something comfy because I had an event right after so I had to change.

Two-toned Slasher

In this day and age, many of today's youth are branching out in terms of their career. There are those that pursue their passion regardless of what they finished, while there are those who maintain their passion on the side of what they do. I forgot where I got the term from, but they are called "slashers" -- no, that does not mean anything emo at all. It goes something like this: e.g. I am a writer/photographer/marketing consultant/freelance graphic artist -- so you're more than one thing and you use "slash" (/).

And so, I guess in a way I am like that too. I am more than one thing and it just so happens that they all blend well together. Two-toned, if you will (much like my bag right there haha). At least, that's what I think.

And so if I were to relate this to a fashion trend, this slasher thing would be color-blocking (or maybe even print on print!) -- sometimes it's a mix of vibrant colors, sometimes it's subtle; sometimes it's unusual, sometimes it's safe. But all in all, the main thing is, you wear what you like and you carry it with confidence. Putting this in perspective, it's when you're being more than one thing and you believe in what you are. Belief carries confidence and confidence carries the style. ;)

So be whatever style you want to be, whether two-toned or more. Don't be afraid to explore because experience is the best teacher. But also, make informed decisions; don't act on impulse especially if it will have a great impact in your life. :)

CEBU 2012: Viva Pit Senyor! Day 2-Part 2

Before I begin with the actual point of this post, just wanted to share that I'm finally on LOOKBOOK.nu! :) Hope you could drop by and check my first post there. That's it! On to the story! :)

After attending the mass and visiting Magellan's Cross, we went around for a bit and found this little fella. I knew I just had to have him!

This reminded me so much of the Octopus ring I got from Une Belle accessories! It's just too adorable to resist. And yes, I did take this home! Imagine me walking around with this. Hahaha it was funny but yeah. ;)

And as it was a day of celebrating, many joined in on the fun. We happened to pass by these two individuals who were just dancing in the middle of the road. How cute! :P

It was fun to watch, and so was the parade itself. We didn't see much of what happened during the parade since it was absolutely impossible to given the number of people that filled up the streets. Still, catching a glimpse of such well-dressed participants was good enough for me! One even posed when I was taking a random photo of him. Hello there!

After a tiring afternoon, we went back to the hotel to rest a bit and prepare for what was about to go down that evening -- PARTY AT BASELINE! :) According to some party-goers (a.k.a. some of our friends who went there early HAHA), the thing started as early as 2PM and by 5PM, when we had just arrived, there were already some people ready to go home. It was pretty crazy, but it was definitely one for the books!

I'm really thrilled to have shared this experience with my lovely friends! The street was packed and the people were soaked. You might be wondering... that's paint all over our faces! Well, this was a great night to cap off my weekend in Cebu. :)

I don't have any photos to share from my third day as most of them are print outs from the Sky Walk in Crown Regency Hotel. But one thing's for certain, I OVERCAME MY FEAR OF HEIGHTS!!! Ah!!!

Looking forward to going back to Cebu again--hoping that that will be this year too!

CEBU 2012: Viva Pit Senyor! Day 2-Part 1

My second day in Cebu was the most-awaited part of my trip because it held the reason why I wanted to go to Cebu in the first place. Of course, besides seeing R again (he works in Cebu), I was most excited about the actual Sinulog Festival!!

The festival is heavily rooted in rich history and religion, which is why going to Basilica Del Sto. Nino in Cebu City was first on the list of to-do's. You can read about its history here.

Even during the morning, the streets were already heavily populated, which led us to being dropped off by the taxi at the nearest possible point; and from thereon, we started walking to the church. It was a pretty long walk, but thank goodness we were able to buy a good pair of cheap sun glasses and this festive straw hat! A lot of people were actually wearing this that day. I'm not really sure, but it must have something to do with Sto. Nino -- correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

This long morning walk would also explain why I would appear to have darker legs in my coming outfit posts (in ones where I'm wearing a skirt or a pair of shorts). Well, this, and the fact that the color of my legs still hasn't recovered from my stay in the dragonboat team. Hehe

We barely understood bisaya, so I'm thankful R was around to guide us (but I do remember the lady from the airport asking me if I spoke bisaya because I understood what the man helping me with my luggage during my check-in said, and I said no. I just understood some because of R).

Before even coming to Cebu, I already heard of the phrase "Pit Senyor!" from a couple of friends who had gone to last year's Sinulog. Thing is, I didn't know exactly what it meant. So when I got here and heard practically everyone rejoicing, "Viva Pit Senyor!", I just had to get an answer as to what it meant.

As I joined the crowd in praising, I learned that "Pit Senyor" meant something like feast of Sto. Nino -- this came from a local that we asked. So, "Viva Pit Senyor" would mean something like Long live Sto. Nino.

Well, indeed, it was a beautiful sight to see -- the people gathering together, bearing the heat of the sun and the unbelievably stuffed streets, to join in celebration! Yes, this trip was more than just sight seeing. It was understanding and exploring another part of my beloved country. :) This morning was definitely a great start to my second day in Cebu!

More about my second day in another post. I'm trying to avoid photo dumping in one post because I really want to talk about the trip and what happened.

CEBU 2012: Viva Pit Senyor!

I can't say much about travelling because I don't have enough experience. Besides the trips I've taken with my family, -- during which I was not very involved with the planning -- I really am not an authority in this department. So when I knew I was booked and set for Cebu just in time for the Sinulog Festival 2012, I was beyond excited and really, such a noob. But I didn't care because I've always had fun exploring local destinations (whether tourist or non-commercial ones). I'm sure we all have dreams of travelling to all these fantastic destinations abroad, but I think we should all come to realize how good we have it here in the Philippines. Explore what's around you, before you stray too far away. To be honest, I am only beginning to realize this. But I'll stop myself right here before I begin breaking down my travels in the past. Right now, IT'S ALL ABOUT CEBU, BABY!

I was set to leave Manila last January 14, the day before the grand festival. I didn't have much time to pack prior to my scheduled departure, so I packed so light that my luggage wasn't even half of the weight limit! I've always been an over-packer, by the way, so this came as a shock to me. Still, I knew this trip was meant for me to explore so it was only right that I dressed for the part -- as laid back as possible.

My first step on Cebu grounds was very surreal. I have never traveled via plane with friends before, so going out of Manila this far without family was new and exciting! I love travelling with my family, but there's also a different love for when I travel with friends.

My stay in Cebu involved a lot of EATING. May it be in restaurants or a corner ihawan, I was ready to try the food. Matia's was the first place I was able to go to after a busy day of working (yes, I brought work along with me for a day). I was stuffed with their grilled chicken, chorizo, and 2 servings of puso (their rice). It was unbelievably cheap!

My craving for Thai food also decided to tag along and Royal Krua Thai showed itself to us just in time, while we were strolling around SM City Cebu. With the number of people in Cebu City around that time, it was no surprise that we had to wait in line to try this restaurant. The wait was worth it because the food was absolutely good! And, well, seriously... how can you resist such a beautiful interior?

The first day ended with a happy tummy! I looked forward to seeing more places and experiencing the Festival itself the following day. I knew it was going to be tiring, but I was eager nonetheless!

My second day holds more pictures and stories, so I'll leave that for another post.

This year, I really hope to travel more! This shall be the first of many travels for this year! It's always so exciting to know you're bound to discover a lot of things. Experience teaches you so much!

Bright for A Bright Day

My life right now is such a whirlwind! I can't explain how different 2012 is turning out to be. The past year was amazing and I had more control (I'm such a control freak haha); but this year, it's as if things are being handed to me and sometimes it's good, sometimes I'm hesitant. In the end, it helps to just try to place things in order regardless.

So as exhausting as the beginning of January has been for me, the month still holds a couple of great things like post-holiday season offers! I am such a girl! And just last week, I took advantage of Multiply's "Free Shipping Season" and raided the marketplace for some new additions to my color-classified closet.

Continuing with my 2011 resolution/challenge, I am adding more color choices into my wardrobe with this light blue green one-button blazer with black lining from Chick Flick Collection. I love that the blazer is in a bright color, and yet the black lining details create a balance that makes the blazer wearable for both day and night.

I especially love the back part because of the black detail that runs down the spine. It's an interesting addition to what would have otherwise been a dull blazer back!

Orange you glad?

I know the title is not so original anymore, but it's very appropriate for 2012 since Pantone picked orange as the color for 2012. I just recently learned about Pantone when I got curious about how the color for the year is chosen. Upon my research, I found that Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color. Look them up on Google!

So for a day of running blog errands and a night with my college girlfriends, I went for an outfit inspired by 2 Broke Girls' Caroline (Beth Behrs). Clean and classy in white, but still translated into my personal style. I added the orange jacket to give a pop of color and used black accents to tie the look together.

I didn't realize that my camera was running out of bad when I asked by ate (our household helper) to take the photos, so we were only able to get one shot. Haha! Thank goodness it was a decent one! :) Ate, you are awesome!

When you want to break the monotony, add a pop of color! ;) Guess I'm just lucky 2012's color is also my favorite color! Have you worn orange this year yet? :)

Candy Colored

One morning my mom caught me sighing, "I don't have anything to wear..." And the thing is, we say this a lot even though we know we've got a closet full of clothes. I guess having worn practically everything in my closet (and I do use pieces more than once--BECAUSE THAT'S TOTALLY OKAY) makes it feel like there's nothing else I can wear. :p Then, being the wonderwoman that my mom is, she pulls out this attention-grabbing bright pink top and lends it to me! :) Problem solved!!

To make the look more interesting, I pulled out my dark turquoise bag I received as a graduation gift from my relatives last year. It's one of my favorite bags, actually, since it can fit practically everything I need to bring!

And with that, I was work-ready! :) I believe work clothes don't always need to be so stiff. Play up with colors and/or structures.

STYLE SURGERY GIVEAWAY

Scream Green

I have a lot of neutral/basic colors in my wardrobe and I've been thinking that I should really be more adventurous when it comes to my color choices. I have a lot of the usual greys, blacks, and whites, as well as reds and oranges, which are colors that I find easy to style. With that said, part of the challenges I've given myself this year is to step out of my comfort zone every once in a while and go the extra mile in terms of dressing up. I prefer to call them challenges rather than resolutions in order for me to really get to it :)

You've seen me wear pastels in my previous outfit post; and now, here's a louder than loud "look at me" pants. Heehee! I've had these pants since that time when colored skinny jeans were sort of in. But I think this is actually only the second time I've used them because I find it too hard to wear!

I opted for black, grey and silver for the rest of the outfit in order to balance out the loudness of the pants. Still, I made sure not to be boring so I threw on this sequined top I got as a Christmas gift last December.

At the Check-Out: Thrift to UK

To be honest, I've never gone thrifting before. I guess I never knew where the really good ones are, plus, I've never had the time to spare. I'm always on-the-go. I would, however, love to experience thrift shopping some time! I remember making plans with my thesismate, Sam (since she always does that), but they never pushed through. Luckily, given that Multiply has now transformed into a haven for online entrepreneurs, it's much easier to have access to thrifted goods! One of my favorite go-to online shops that sells thrifted finds is THRIFT TO UK. (See me wearing their stuff!)

Owned by the amazing thrift duo, Cheyenne and Nicole, Thrift to UK gives you top-of-the-line thrifted finds. Personally, I'm very picky with what I buy online (especially when you know it's thrifted/second hand) because I still want my purchases to be worth it.

I honestly don't know how they do it, but the Thrift to UK girls know exactly where to look and what to look for. Take these for example:

Sweet and Subtle

Having no particular style gives so much freedom to the fashion aficionado to dress up in ways not expected of him/her. It challenges the fashionista to go through the same wardrobe selections and translate the same pieces into different styles, depending on the mix-and-match.

Today, I decided to go extra feminine and subtle on the look by using pastel colors (which I don't often do, if you've noticed). I believe I have never gone this "pale" on color selection, but it's good to know the outfit I had only imagined right before leaving for work turned out to be a pretty good ensemble.

This was also the day R celebrated his birthday, so I was glad I wore something chic and girly. And, well, considering my skirt's length, fabric, and pleated detail, it was just too hard to resist twirling and playing around with it! :)

South vibes rolling

I can't stop bringing up how chill the south vibe is. I mean, people are really laid back, easy lang and very friendly. It's really highly likely that you'll bump into someone you know especially at the malls. I'm particularly inclined to Muntinlupa since this is really where I grew up. Despite living in crazy Manila for more than 3 years (during my college days), nothing beats coming home to that cozy, relax lang feeling. :) I guess where you are also says a lot about how you dress up--I don't mean this only in terms of geography, but also the environment itself (including the people you're surrounded by, the structures, the places, etc).

So when I'm usually going to be just around Muntinlupa, it's highly likely that I'll be in something more laid back and easy to move around in. Went more casual with the outfit for a day of catching up and watching Manila Kingpin: The Untold Story of Asiong Salonga with a friend. By the way, I liked the movie. Legit! Great story :)

Notice that I always like tucking in the front of an oversized top and letting the back part just hang. Personally, I find this as an easy way to achieve that "effortless-I-don't-care-but-I-really-do" look ;)

Tips for Online Shopping + Announcement!

A few weeks back, I was alerted by a friend via Twitter about her experience with a ‘fake’ online shop, NaughtyGirls Shop. My friend followed up more than 10x already and received no response. I tried looking it up on Facebook, but it was already unsearchable. But instead of telling you how bad the experience was, I’ll just share three tips to help you avoid getting robbed blind of your money, especially now that it’s a new year and I’m sure a lot of us are looking to saving and making purchases that count.

Connections count
If the website is new to you, take a look around first. I know seeing all the pretty things will already be tempting, but it saves to take the time to browse and check the comments. Sometimes there are sites that have feedback sections. There are also sites that are recommended by bloggers. But if you’re still unsure about it, the best sites are definitely the ones recommended by your friends. No doubt about it—they’ve already experienced the quality of service the shop has to offer. Just like Thrift to UK and Tanzessories ByEntcyclers—both are online shops owned by people I know. Thrift to UK girls, Cheyenne and Nicole, are friends and fellow Comm Arts graduates; Tanzessories ByEntcyclers' Pat is also a good friend and a batchmate from Zobel. How more connected can I get?

See eye to eye
Personally, I prefer shops that give you the option to meet-up. I remember the reason why I trusted Anagon Collection so much for my first time experience with online shopping was not only because of all the positive feedbacks, but also because of the option to meet-up in DLSU Taft area. One thing to make sure is that the locations for meet-ups are public places like malls and schools (this is also for safety reasons); best to bring a friend with you, too.

Know the owner

With the boom of online shops, there will be times that you will encounter one that is still a ‘baby’. Chic Accents is actually a fairly new online shop that started in April this year and I found the owner, Chico, to be very accommodating and sweet. So don’t fret because you won’t have to let go of that one-of-a-kind accessory if you find the time to talk to the owner. Get to know the owner, get to know how they started. Serious owners take the time to accommodate their clients as well and makes sure to answer all their queries. If they are hard to contact or they don’t reply at all, don’t waste your time and money. It's their loss anyway. Patience is a virtue that will surely pay off in the end. :) Any entrepreneur should know that it is important to gain the trust of the client (which would sometimes take a while).

So I hope I was able to somehow 'enlighten' you with careful online shopping. Sparkle and Shine

It's always so much fun to read about new year celebrations, may it be blog posts or articles. The pieces are always fun and vibrant! Plus, you're always bound to see either red, polka dotted or metallic pieces. :) It's inspiring to see how different fashion bloggers style their new year outfit.

Here's how I styled my metallic piece :) I read somewhere that when dressing up in something metallic, less is more as the focal point of the look is already the piece itself. So with accessories, try not to bulk up in order to avoid looking like a disco ball of some sort.

To a glittering 2012!

Hi everyone! The first day for 2012 is coming to an end here in the Philippines and it surely was a great start for me. I had a filling celebration last night, welcoming the new year together with my family. Though there weren't much fireworks, as I heard it had been prohibited, the amount of food laid out on our table made up for it. Still, we did see a couple of fireworks display from neighboring areas :) Really pretty lights!

Some of you might've seen my tweets about the negativity that has been attacking me since yesterday, but I won't delve into that anymore. I'm sure the person is just either misunderstood or something. Guess we're all bound to some sort of criticism eventually; after all, we have exposed ourselves to the Internet, which has a wide reach and as they say, "you can't please everyone" (especially with fashion/style, since we've all got our individual taste).

I'm just happy that as this new year is beginning, I'm contented with how things are going. I've got an amazing family, a great set of friends, a loving and absolutely patient boyfriend, and a great start to my career. :)

Metallic Army

I should probably be capping off my 2011 blog posts with a super bongga outfit post, but instead, I'm here with a wearable edgy outfit. I guess it says a lot about how 2011 has been for me (plus how 'cool' the weather was that day). At least it's metallic, so this is still in celebration of the new year! Heehee!

2011 for me was exciting because at just the beginning of the year, I already had so many things to look forward to. I was set on interning for ANC's Storyline, finish our thesis, and graduate by October 2011 (with honors!). I'm so grateful for all of the blessings that came my way and for the things that fell right into place when I needed/wanted them to.

It was surprising/a year of discovery. I was officially invited to my first event as a blogger and met all these people I would usually only have the chance to talk to online. I also found myself slowly overcoming self esteem issues because I have found things and people that influence me positively. I also experienced travelling with friends and camping out on an island with no electricity (just you, and the stars). And, more recently, I started working early this December and am now experiencing the employed life.

And it is a year that is definitely worth remembering. My mom just turned 60, I just turned 21, my brother just got engaged, and all these wonderful things like graduating, the opportunities and a bunch of other news are just the icing to each day. :)

I don't know how I want 2012 to turn out exactly, but I do have plans for this year and I hope that the decisions I will be making will help me achieve my goals. I also want to travel more! I have a long way to go in terms of where I want to be, but 2011 just marked my first year as an independent young adult and I'm feeling very good about things! I guess it doesn't really hurt to dream... most of the time, it even works to your advantage! :)

Let's be thankful for the year that has been and look forward with optimism to the year that will be.

My blog has definitely been given so many chances to grow this year, and I would just like to thank each and everyone of you! In all honesty, I am always surprised to find out that there are people who take the time to drop by/read/comment/share/ask. :) To all the bloggers, groups, and brands that I've had the chance to collaborate with, it has been such a pleasure working with you all. Here's to hoping that 2012 will ring in more blessings :)

Clean and Classy

Please don't mind my eyes in these photos. I was up late the night before hence puffy eyes. At least now I know what I'll look like if I had 'Asian eyes' hehehe. But anyway, for this day, I decided to go minimal and classy.

Instead of going for white and black, I turned to similar shades (or within the same color family) of cream and gray for a more youthful appeal. It's still the basics, but with a twist!

I also wanted to use my new bangles again from Tomato, which I am totally loving! Thank you to my cousins for the gift! I've actually been wanting to get black bangles for a while now but haven't found good ones that I liked, so this set and I are a match made in fashion heaven! ;) Think I'm slowly turning into a Tomato girl--affordable fashion, indeed! Decided to ditch the rings this time for a cleaner effect

Salmon Swing

I mentioned in one of my posts that we have three December celebrants in the family and as of last Wednesday, all three of us have celebrated our birthdays! My mom was the last one, celebrating her 60th at The Palms Country Club.

The celebration was very darling and young--it felt like a debut, as my cousin Ysha, described it. And well, yes, we did try to make it like a debut because as they say, you're just as young as you feel! So why not emphasize on that, right? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM! LOVE YOU SO MUCH! :)

So anyway, I knew my mom was going to wear a red dress (duh, because I picked it out for her :p), so I made sure to wear something more subtle in color. Luckily, just a few days before the celebration, I was able to spot this really pretty dress in the department store in SM Megamall. I swear, SM has everything!

Isn't it sweet? It's a beautiful salmon color and I got it for only P400 (less than $10)! Unbelievable! I think it was around 50% off. What a steal! :) The brand is called Soiree and I found a couple of other pieces I want to go back for. The prices are also amazing! Most of it are below a thousand pesos and the designs are really trendy.

Plus, I love that the back was like this. I think it plays with the sweetness of the color by adding a bit of "sexiness" in the detailing.

Plaid & Sailboats

During the Bloggers United bazaar part 2 last December 3, 2011, I didn't really do much of shopping. But since items were priced really low that day, I decided to at least take advantage and find a few new additions to my closet. One of which is this adorable (lakas maka-Blair Waldorf) blazer from Aie of Walk In Aie's Shoes. I met her during the Revlon Make-Over Weekend and she was really very sweet. I guess I would describe her style as sweet and classy yet very wearable. :)

And since this blazer does have that Blair Waldorf vibe, I decided to channel the upper east sider for a day! ;) I guess you can say I went all out with this, sans the leggings because that just won't do for this day's weather. :p

Too many ribbons, I'm going to explode! Haha! But don't you think the ends of the sleeves of the blazer are just too cute to resist? :) Partly the reason why I was so set on buying it. I honestly held on to the blazer once I saw it on the rack and didn't let go until I was sure if I was going to get it or not (you know how fast the hands of bargain hunters are! Hehe)

I tried to avoid looking too "put together" by going for print on print, and this time, it's an unusual combination of plaid and sailboats (on my dress). This dress is an absolute favorite I scored from Thrift to UK. Watch out for my post about them! ;)

Oh, and I wore my new suede pumps (again) from Landmark. It's actually becoming an instant favorite and go-to pair! :) Don't you just love that it's gray? I do! :>

White Christmas Day

On Christmas day, I decided to treat R to dinner at Yabu since I wasn't able to get him any gift. The staff was, as usual, very attentive and knew what we needed even without us raising our hand to ask for it. Our bottomless drinks were filled immediately and our server, "Jan", came by every once in a while to check if we needed anything and if the food was okay. Great food, great service, GREAT JOB YABU! :)

As for what I wore...

I opted for something more casual yet classy. I went with dark jeans, black flats and a white top that has really pretty pearl-ed neckline. :) It's so sweet and polished!

Sometimes things have a way of working out on their own

Because I had work last 24th and have been too busy the days before that to even sit down and think about/look for something to wear for Christmas eve, I ended up with a template ensemble of a top, skirt and blazer to end up looking effortless but still put together. I would love to have had the chance to be more dressy, but my schedule just didn't allow for much "contemplating" and my sleep was bare of dreams of outfits and eureka! moments.

Every Christmas

Just as our tradition would go, this Christmas was spent at home. Though I still had work the whole day of the 24th, I'm glad I had the energy to stay up until 12 midnight struck and my family and I got to officially greet each other Merry Christmas! and feast on our Noche Buena. After which, we gave our gifts and opened them too! :)

And that's how we do it every Christmas! :) How was your Christmas spent? I would love to know! I know there are some who spend it out and about. Maybe you've got a different/similar tradition? :)

Turning Forever 21: Princess for A Day

My apologies for still not having a Christmas post up now. I'm trying to get through the backlogs while I still have a couple of days left for 2011! How quickly time flew by! Still can't believe it. But anyway...

I’m not sure if you guys remember the skirt I wore to the SM Ladies’ Fashion show during PFW S/S 2012, but I donned a heavy midi white skirt with the subtle detailed textures. I’m sure I already mentioned this in my post about that outfit, but that skirt was a hand-me-down from my mom and I’m totally in love with it! I bet whenever I have the chance, I’ll really take it out for a spin (literally spinning helps, too!). It’s that one piece that can instantly make you feel like royalty! And yet, its length prevents it from looking over-the-top/prom queen.

So since I was feeling very whimsy and proper that day, I built my outfit around that skirt. I knew I had to wear it JUST BECAUSE! ;)

I paired it with what used to be a ¾ lace top, of which I cut the sleeves off because it was already sort of torn and it was hard to repair since it was lace. I think my little DIY project went well, yes? :)

To complete the look, I went for gold and black accessories. Some said I looked like I was gonna get married; while some thought it was too formal. Yes, I got stares, but I take those as a good sign regardless of what people thought. HEY, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY ANYWAY. Hehe!

And so this is the last post for my 'birthday series'. Thank you to everyone who greeted... and even tried to make #happybdaymegann trend! I posted it as my "wish" as a joke, but it was really sweet that people did add it to their tweets. THANK YOU ALL!!! It truly has been a great year filled with discovery and opportunities! :)

Have to get some shut eye now. Still have work tomorrow! :) I'll probably (or hopefully) have AT LEAST one post per day just to catch up with the backlogs. Whew!

Turning Forever 21: The People

Of course there’s no one else in the world I’d rather spend my birthday with than with my loved ones! Glad we were all able to free our Sundays for this day. Great food was complemented well by great company!

Watched New Year's Eve despite the not so good reviews about it. It was okay, but not really something you'll remember.

Anyway, I hope you’re all able to spend your time more with your loved ones now that it’s the holidays and all. :) R is currently at the mall right now doing last minute Christmas shopping for the both of us. Hahaha! And yes, while he's out shopping, I'm here working. Hmmm says a lot about who wears the pants in this relationship. MWAHAHAHAHA!

Turning Forever 21: The Place

This Sunday was actually a joined celebration for me and my brother (his birthday is on the 20th). And for this special day, the family gathered together at Johnny Chow in Resorts World for a lunch out and post-lunch bonding [slash] help mom find shoes to wear for her birthday. Yep, we have three December celebrants in the family! How much more festive can it get, right?

So I can’t tell you much about what the food is made of and what they’re called because I was too busy catching up with everyone and such; plus, my parents and my brother took charge of ordering, so I’ll just share with you the experience through pictures.

One thing though is that I love their interior. It’s cozy yet quirky at the same time. I love that the servers are either wearing fun wigs or have colored their hair (for the guys). Plus, the walls are very intricately designed. Even the shelves contain books and figurines that match well with the whole ambiance of the place.

The food, despite the names being unknown to me, is very yummy! Each dish is flavorful and you won’t get tired of eating them. Hindi sila nakakasawa, kumbaga. I especially loved the sweet and sour pork and the noodles (for long life, of course ;p).

Are you hungry yet? Most of their servings are good for 2-3 persons except for the rice toppings. I would definitely recommend Johnny Chow for those special lunch-out Sundays with your family; or maybe even for dinner. Find out more about Johnny Chow by visiting their Facebook page. :)

Turning forever 21

So sorry for the lack of posts. I had just gotten out of the hospital and this post has been on cue since last Sunday, so here we go! :)

It surely has been 21 UH-MAZING years! I cannot even begin to explain how much my life has grown and how much I love where everything else is right now. When I was younger, I was always in a hurry to grow up because I thought life was more fun that way; but now that I’ve grown older, I can’t help but look back on the days. I look back not with regrets, but with joy. I’m thankful that before hitting the big 2-0 last year, I started to stop wishing to grow older and just lived. I used to want to fast forward the years because I wanted to get past the awkward, insecure stage. But as years passed, I found that there was no way to get past that but to reconcile with yourself. Not even age can cover up your worries about yourself; not unless you accept it. I guess what age and experience teach you—is not to get past things, but to overcome them.

I know I’m talking well beyond my years. There are people who are much wiser and much more experienced than I am. But it’s great to take the time to realize these things every now and then because it helps you be more positive and driven.

No one is going to get younger any time soon. It’s best to embrace and live the year that is now and hope that in the future, no matter what good or bad things happened today, you will be thankful. Just because. Personally, I’m always just thankful each time I wake up. That’s just God’s way of saying that you have another chance. Because truth be told, some people don’t have as much chances. That’s reality. So maximize each chance you get and live your dreams! It’s never too late to dig through your childhood treasure chest and find that one thing you love the most.

I hope we all find our passion and pursue it! Make each year count!

For the next posts, I will be doing a birthday series on what I did, who I was with and what I wore (of course). So I hope you all have a great day and make sure that the remaining days of 2011 will be more than awesome!

A few weeks ago, while at work, I received the biggest shock of my life to date! I was informed that I'm be one of the three girls who will be receiving a designer dress from L'Oreal Paris Philippines' Total Repair 5 TVC -- the black dress designed by Rajo Laurel! I was in absolute disbelief! So I waited until they announced it, and when it was up on Facebook, I started receiving text messages from my friends saying that they saw L'Oreal PH's post about me.

It feels really great to have been picked for something like this. More so, because it recognizes my struggles and how I was able to overcome them. Truly, I believe that lack of confidence shouldn't bring a person down but push the person to find something he/she is passionate about. Fortunately, for me, I found my "strength" in writing, fashion and playing sports and have developed this belief in myself because of it. :) And what I hope for others is that they find their strength to be able to see how much they are worth it too!

Thank you L'Oreal Paris Philippines for this opportunity and for the gift! It definitely is a happy December. :) This feels like an early birthday+Christmas gift!

By the way, thank you for all the sweet greetings yesterday! I feel so blessed and overwhelmed. Stay tuned for a series of birthday posts I have lined up. :)

I'm actually typing this on my friend Ish's laptop while she's getting ready. Heehee hi Ish baby! we're on our way to our friend Ica's birthday celebration. :p I hope everyone's been having a great December so far! Remember that you are all worth it too! ;)

Black and blue, with mustard too!

Last Sunday, when I just got home from driving lessons, I was told the family was already leaving for our dinner out at The Old Spaghetti House, so I hurriedly took a bath and got dressed. It's an absolute no-no for me to go out with my hair still wet, but as I was pressed for time and didn't want to look not-put-together, I had no choice. I also wanted to go for an outfit that was polished yet still with a few quirks.

And like I said, polished with quirks: mustard and electric blue? I don't think I've seen these two colors together. Both colors are "statement colors", but I think it worked on this look. The Island Girl necklace is also a statement piece in this look. Plus, I also really like the shoulder details of the cardigan!! What do you think?

I've been so busy that this backlog is already a week delayed! So sorry, but work has been keeping me these days. But I have no complaints. :) I'm enjoying! I'm really happy for the weekend though, since tomorrow's (December 18) my birthday already. Yay!! :)

'Tis the season to be jolly!

With my birthday and Christmas just around the corner, I didn't want to let the gloomy weather take its toll on my outfit's "vibe" so I went for lighter colors. Despite the challenge of shooting outdoor with the rain, we managed to find a spot in our garden that's covered by the roof and big enough to do a quick outfit shoot.

So many things have been going my way and I can't be any more thankful. I recently just started at my new job and so far, everything's going fine. So much optimism. It must be the season! Hehe. Then again, we shouldn't be basing our "outlooks on life" on the time of the year. Holidays or not, it pays to look at the silver lining. It's always more golden that way. ;)

Sunday Snuggle

Despite being a tropical country, the "ber" months should still be cooler than the rest of the year. Unfortunately, that hasn't occurred as much as it should during this time of the year. So after what seemed to be a long "drought" during holiday season, the rain gods have finally heard the plead of many and decided to shower (literally) us with rain! And believe me, last week Sunday (December 4), "Sunday morning rain is falling" or any part of that particular Maroon 5 song was quick to trend both on Twitter and Facebook. Yep, indeed, many rejoiced in this bed weather. It was absolutely perfect for a Sunday snuggle. And what better way to keep snuggled than to wear a fuzzy oversized pullover dress?

Times like this, I am very much thankful for because I love pulling out my knights, layers, and more textured pieces as they've been gathering dust for most of the year. So it's like a party for them. Haha!

The color is very sweet/dainty, yet the oversized aspect of this piece makes it slouchy/laid back. I like that it's just loose and just hangs off of your body. Cozy! :)

Shorts + Sleeveless in December

A week ago, I accompanied my mom to the mall. It was really hot, by the way! So I really had trouble figuring out what to wear. I'm the layers kind of girl, so it's always a struggle during hot days like this.

One thing's for certain though... I love the color of the top!! It's so gorgeous! It has a matching blazer--spotted in this post. ;) Plus, can you guess where I got this from? The ever-stylish mom's closet! Heehee.

Filed Flavor: Kanin Club

The first time I tried Kanin Club was a year ago when my loved ones and I celebrated my and my brother's birthdays. At that moment, I knew I tasted the best Crispy Pata ever! Fast forward to almost a year later, this December 2011, R and I decided to revisit the restaurant in Westgate, Alabang after we met up at the Bloggers United bazaar.

Of course the name "Kanin Club" already screamed of Filipino cuisine--with kanin, translated "rice" in english, being a staple in any pinoy family's dining table. The wooden make of the interior also gave off a very pinoy vibe to this restaurant. But for this visit, instead of the Crispy Pata I just boasted about, we decided to try something different so we could get a better "feel" of the restaurant...and also because we like doing that--trying out different dishes.

For our appetizer, we went with this mushroom dish (I forgot the name :\). R liked it. But personally, I think I would prefer the mushrooms to be sliced. I found it too much for one "bite". Plus I felt the taste was a bit bland/lacking in an extra kick.

Then the main course was composed of Crispy Tadyang and Lemon Chicken.

The Crispy Tadyang is a crunchy and lightly seasoned beef spare ribs served with three dipping sauces. PhP 313.00

Lemon Chicken, on the other hand, is choice chicken portions, fried then coated in sweet and tangy lemon sauce. PhP 224.00

I loved both dishes! Was hoping the serving size was a bit bigger though. I wanted more! They tasted differently from each other, which gives our taste buds variations. I think those two were good picks for the night. Made up for our dismay with the mushroom dish.

Bottom line, we enjoyed our dinner and would rate the experience as 8/10. That's probably less than what I would have given the restaurant last year, but that's because we also ate different dishes. So it's nice to be able to taste other things from the restaurants too rather than just being save. If you ask me if I'll come back? Yes, I definitely will. I'm looking forward to exploring other dishes! I heard the Crispy Dinuguan is really good. I love Dinuguan so that's definitely on the list of dishes to try! :)

MEGA Young Designers Competition

The MEGA Young Designers Competition has finally begun and the designers have finally been introduced.

The true characters of the designers will be exposed. The first challenge requires the aspiring designers to establish their mark in the competition by creating outfits that symbolizes the positive attitude of being proud of themselves. But, it doesn’t end there since an additional challenge lies ahead. They must be able to channel their past and use an unforgettable childhood memory that would reflect it in their design.

Jiving with the memorable November 2011 cover shoot of MEGA, the challengers are sent off to busy Divisoria to gather their materials.

The first step is over and this is the start of more innovating and exciting challenges to come as 18 fashion hopefuls will battle it out to be the ultimate winner.

Hear ye! Hair ye!

I'm always so overwhelmed when I get comments on a post. And with my last post reaching around 10 comments, that already comes as a shock to me! So I'm very, very thankful that people take time to read/browse through what I write on this here blog. :) I hope you guys never get tired! I try my best to visit back and leave a comment or two, too. :) So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the sweet words!

Anyway, on to a topic rarely discussed on my blog: HAIR! Like the title? Heehee

Have you girls experienced getting your hair cut shorter than usual and it was fine then--completely fine; more like AWESOME. But after a while, you decide you want to grow your hair again, so you skip getting more than an inch of hair cut off. And your hair grows, and it reaches this awkward stage where it's not short enough but it's not long enough either.

And you just don't know what to do.

What are your hair routines for controlling your hair especially during this "stage"?

Fall-ing for the 2011 trend

One of the Fall/Winter 2011 trend I’ve been doubtful to try is androgyny. This is when women dress more “masculine”. And the reason why I’ve never been able to try this out is because 1) I over-think the trend and worry about looking like a boy, which, ironically, is the point; and 2) I don’t have the clothes to pull it off—or at least, I thought I didn’t.

So the day before Bloggers United 2, I already knew I was going to use this beautiful rust-colored blazer (rust also happens to be a F/W 2011 trend). The only question was, what would the rest of my outfit be? It was a choice between a flowy below-the-knee skirt and a high-waist cropped pants; both will give totally different vibes.

I found that using the skirt would be a safer choice. So since I was feeling “risky” that day, I opted for the second. And now that I think about it, besides falling under androgyny, this also gives off that “band geek” vibe sans the gold button details on the blazer. I wanted to keep the focus on the beautiful blazer, so I opted for fewer accessories than usual (and used ones that complemented the color of the blazer).

Light and Loose

Lately my outfits have been either borderline corporate or totally casual. I don't know what's up with the weather or myself these days, but I guess this is also a good way to show you how, as I've described it, "my style undergoes surgery every day."

I really don't know how to classify my style. Even when I was asked about it for my Smashion interview, I just wanted to say that my style is a dash of this and that! I couldn't decide/put my finger on it. Hmmm, what do you guys think?

All I know is I love dressing up (or down), depending on the occasion. :)

Which begs the question, "What to wear?"

Prior to this outfit, I have never tried working orange together with purple so I'm not sure how well this turned out. I was just looking for something easy to slip on for this day as I was rushing and I was only going to be out of the house for an hour. So I got my purple dress A line dress from Maldita and used this top/cover up I got from my mom's closet. The dress is cotton and the cover up is sheer, so that was good enough for me.

Filed Flavor: Yabu: The House Of Katsu

About one or two weeks ago, I received one of the most exciting emails to date… to take a shot at “the Yabu experience”. I’ve always fancied food blogging, but never really considered it as a forte. But then again, I can never say no to Japanese food. So as soon as my schedule cleared out, I tagged my parents along for the surely one-of-a-kind experience.

Even before spotting Yabu, I already spotted a long line of customers outside (and even a couple more sitting down). Although going there on a holiday may not have been such a good idea, seeing the patience of these costumers as they wait to be seated already gave me the impression that this is “worth the wait”.

The interior is a mixture of modern and quirky, with their wooden panels on one side of the room and a blown up comic strip at the opposite wall. Deeper into the restaurant, you’ll see a bar-like structure, which reminds me of those which I see in Japanese-inspired films. They had what one would call a “mood lighting,” which makes the place feel more cozy and intimate. Although the place is small, I think for a set-up/design like this, the size is just right. Expanding it would definitely entail some adjustments to the design.

Upon my arrival, the hostess readily came to me and asked if I would be comfortable to wait and have my name listed down. And as soon as the table was ready, we were called in and were immediately seated. The packed Yabu definitely did not send their service packing. The waiters were quick to come to our tables and offer us with beverage and appetizers. Even the restaurant manager, Mr. Mon Tecson, was going around the restaurant, attending to the needs and making sure the guests were as comfy as possible.

The waiters also wore these really fun statement shirts that got me thinking of my own “Yabu-fied” statements. Hahaha! I’ve already got a couple in my head!

And for the most exciting part—the meal might have taken a while but the serving size is worth the price.

Appetizers (P175/set): Wakame (seaweed salad topped with ebiko) and Potato Salad (potato cubes with creamy mayonnaise and mustard dressing)

There is a choice between two sets of appetizers. The other set is Edamame (soybeans) and Hiyayakko Tofu (tofu cubes in ponzu sauce with bonito flakes)

Yabu is known for their katsu (hence tagging it as “House Of Katsu”). With the head chef of Tonkatsu Takeshin (a top tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo), chef Kazuya Takeda on their team, they really knew they wanted to bring the best to the table.

We wanted to try something different each, so I had the Kurobota Pork Set, while my mom had the Mixed Seafood Katsu and my dad had the Hire and Seafood Katsu.

The outer coating of the katsu (cutlets) had the right amount of crisp while the meat itself was very soft and easy to chew. I swear, I’ve never experienced katsu like this! I kept telling my folks how good it tasted! The secret is in the meat; sourcing it locally from trusted partners and delivered fresh and never frozen.

Aside from that,--well I personally consider this as a bonus—I was entertained by how you get to make your own sauce! You can actually have them make it for you, but where’s the fun in that? So you crush the sesame seeds (which smell delightful, by the way) until they’ve turned to powder and then you add the sauce. Yum!!

Their prices range from 165 to 500+, based on what I remember (like the Chicken Katsu set goes for P290.00 and the Rosu Katsudon is priced at P265.00, and so on). It was a set meal that included the giant katsu together with rice, miso soup, fruits, and unlimited cabbage. Yup, unlimited!

The overall experience was satisfying! Just writing about the food is already making me hungry… and now I’m craving!I would love to go back and take my friends with me soon! I know a lot of them love Japanese food as well, so this will be a different experience.

Shreddin' in the South

You've all probably heard about the "south" being very chill/laid back--and that pertains to the south side of Metro Manila. I would have to agree. Growing up here, I have always found the area to be very relaxing and the people to be very chill/carefree. Not to say that people here don't know how to be serious, but they just know how to relax.

And now, to add to the list of the many weekend chill spots in the south is the newly opened Soderno in Molito! I went there together with my high school girlfriends after taking a not-so-quick trip to the St. James Bazaar in Ayala Alabang. Read: Buzzin' Bazaars

So what more appropriate laid back outfit than a shredded top? It's edgy and fuss-free! This is actually a reversed top; the shredded detail is supposed to be at the back. I used a vest to conceal the print that's supposed to be in the front.

Sometimes wearing a piece of clothing a different way can make you feel like you've got a new addition to your wardrobe! There's another "do it yourself" tip for you. ;) Find ways to wear your clothes a different way--just like what I did here and with the leopard maxi dress turned mullet skirt! :)

Open Up music video

For those of you who know Vern Enciso (and you should, because she's one of Manila's top bloggers), I'm sure you also know that she has a younger sister, Verniece Enciso; who, by the way, looks a lot like her!

So here's the thing, Verniece was a part of the thesis film of my blockmate, Kit. She starred in the film together with PBB's James Reid. I helped out with the production of that and it was really awesome! So when Kit called me up again to help out with another production with Verniece and James, I immediately said yes!

When bloggers unite (for the second time)

The night before Bloggers United 2, my Twitter feed was filled with tweets and retweets about people’s excitement for the event. The overwhelmingly active feed made me twice as excited about it! I wasn’t really looking to buy a lot of things, but I was more eager to see my blog friends and the rest of the bloggers lined up for this installment of Bloggers United.

It was no question that the event was going to be a success! Based on the feedback online, it was already guaranteed that there were going to be people there… but I didn’t see this one coming:

Treston’s Multipurpose Hall was packed with shoppers and bloggers! I could barely find my way through the crowd, but it was so much fun seeing all these bloggers; it was also tempting as bloggers priced their clothes extremely low! Some of them, by the time 6pm struck, started going 50% off! It was crazy! Unfortunately, I had to miss the 50% off madness because I had other plans. But I had a good time nonetheless!

Here are just some of the bloggers I remembered to take photos with. I really didn’t mean it, but lugging my camera around such a crowded place was kind of a struggle so sometimes I would just put it inside my tote bag and completely forget about it!

My first purchase was from Aie’s stall! I won’t tell what, but when I saw the piece, I just didn’t let go anymore. Hahaha! Thanks Aie! Hope your sales turned out well. :)

Wonder Woman Rises’ Angel Rodriguez won Accessorize’s All About Bags (did I say that right?) blog contest. Congrats dear!

Tracy Ayson saw me while I was browsing through her clothes. I’m really a fan of this Fashion Fangirl so when I was introduced to her before, I was giddy on the inside. Hee!

The Eggplant chronicler, Sarah Tirona! I was really tempted to buy one of her maxi skirts. She had one in this rust-like color and I was just dying because I’m on a shopping diet. :(

And then I also saw Krissy. The malakas maka-attract ng readers from abroad blogger! ;) Alam mo na yan, girl!

Oh and guess who owns these fierce shoes? Syempre ang equally (or mas) fierce na Ms. Divine Lee! It was great to see people ask to take photos with her. She really did take photos with all of those who asked! So nice!!

So that’s it! I did buy a few things but most of them aren’t for me. Since it’s December, it’s more about the presents for others.

I really look up to these bloggers because despite the number of accomplishments they’ve had, they are still one of the most approachable people I know. I’m sure their readers also appreciate it when they remember their names (which I am bad at, by the way :()! So maybe someday I’ll be able to join these amazing bloggers as well? Hee.

I mentioned a few posts back that I went to the St. James Bazaar with a few friends to check the place out and maybe get a few things. So instead of boring you with a long post about what I saw, I'll just let you see for yourself--sort of! :)

What's so special about December?

HEY EVERYONE! HAPPY DECEMBER 1ST! I hope you'll all have a wonderful first day of the the last month for 2011. Let's make the most out of it, shall we?

I still have a couple of posts waiting to be published, but I just have to squeeze this one in just because I think December is one of the most eventful months for any year. Based on my experience, December has always been a whirlwind of a month. Like when I was still a student (and until now, I still can't believe I'm using that phrase), December would mean deadlines and sleepless nights; "last kick," if you will. Now, it means a lot of planning and thinking about the future--or how I would want my 2012 to turn out.

December is also my BIRTHDAY MONTH! :) And although I've got nothing special for my blog this month, do watch out because I'm cooking up something for 2012. I also don't know what I'll be doing for my birthday itself as I was never really the type to be "bongga" and celebrate--really. The only time I did celebrate was when I turned 1, 7 and 18. And I think that's sort of the mandatory ages to celebrate, right? Hahaha! So let's see how this month unfolds. :p

And of course, December also means Christmas and everything festive!

So I hope December will be an amazing month for everyone. Let it be a month that is worth closing 2011 and welcoming 2012! :)

I wasn't actually leaving yet around the time we took the photos (which will explain the slippers later). It's just that I had to take advantage of the lovely natural light. :p

Sloppy yet put together, and bordering on looking like a cowgirl. Hmmm...

Oops, caught changing! Haha slippers to heels!

I couldn't help but feel like a country girl or a variation of something western when I decided to use this suede studded brown ankle boots together with the ensemble. And to somehow get the ball rolling with the cowgirl fashion translated to wearable, I went with a button-down that had ill-proportioned stripes of red, white and blue (in place of the usual plaid). Hmm, TGI Fridays, anyone? Haha! And instead of the tying the two bottom corners of the polo together, I tucked them in to maintain the looseness--perfect for appearing presentable the rather warm weather.

I know I’ve been tweeting about receiving great news quite a lot lately and I guess it’s just always so surprising to me when I receive [any] blog-related email because I never actually thought people would take notice of what I am doing… or at least, what I’m trying to do. Filed Flavor: An apple a day keeps the doctor away

I love eating snacks! Especially in the afternoon when I'm watching my usual line up of TV series or at midnight when I'm still wide awake and writing blog posts. I guess I'm just the type who always likes having something to munch on. Here's the funny thing, though--when it's hot, I don't go for salty snacks. I'm more inclined to have sweeter treats (donuts, cupcakes, ice cream, etc). There's something about sweet and cold treats that make scorching hot Manila afternoons more bearable.

Last Saturday, I went to the St. James Bazaar with some friends and I had my first taste of what would later on be my latest snack obsession!

Alyssa bought this thing called "apple fries". WHAT? And yeah, I pretty much have the same reaction as everyone else who found this idea very foreign. I was wondering how applies could be fries when all along I've known fries to be ideally salty. The illusion was shattered! I crossed by eyebrows at the idea of eating fries that are made out of apples. How did that happen?

I know the idea is puzzling, but after tasting it, my ears just heard the angels sing and my taste buds danced in merriment! The taste somewhat resembles mini donuts, only that, I guess, it's a healthier option. ;) So on my second trip to the St. James Bazaar with my parents (which was last Monday), I knew I had to drop by their stall and get one for myself. I was conversing with Ana about bazaar food and we got to talking about this, so I was very excited to taste it again when I arrived. After my trip to the Island Girl booth, I rushed over to look for the Southern Apple Fries at the food area.

DELICIOUS! Even my mom and dad bought each (we all had the one with ice cream since it was hot). So all three of us were munching away at the bazaar's food area. Hahaha!

Owned by Issa Abueg, Francesca Atendido and Stephanie Ramos (whose name sounded familiar at first, and later on it turns out I had a class together with her back in the Univ), Southern Apple Fries are made with the freshest Granny Smith apples and served with mallow cream cheese dip. Now doesn't that sound tasty? You can choose to have your apple fries served with (P120) or without (P80) ice cream. It's totally worth it!

I asked the sister of one of the owners who was manning the booth, and unfortunately, Southern Apple Fries doesn't have a permanent stall yet that you can go to. Tomorrow is (Wednesday, November 30) their last day at St. James Bazaar. Find them on Facebook and Twitter for more updates about where they'll be next. :)

Let's get physical! #DLSUDBT

Let's take a quick trip out of the fashion blogging zone as I share with you something that is just as close to my heart--DRAGONBOAT. Some of you might already know of my involvement with the DLSU Dragonboat Team (DLSU DBT) during my stay in the University, while to some, this might come as a surprise. Eitherway, since it's recruitment week for my ever-loving and passionate team, I thought I'd help them out.

I don't know if a lot of people are interested in this, but I've been asked a few times already, so I thought I'd tell you about my "athletic side"--not that I have one that I consider.

I joined DLSU DBT last June 2010 and I have to admit it has got to be one of the decisions I never saw coming. I joined with no knowledge and no training. It was just out of pure curiosity as I am inclined to trying out sports/activities that seem interesting (e.g. track and field, hiking, ultimate frisbee, tennis, boxing -- yes, I tried it all).

These lovely ladies with me look really nice and sweet, but they're absolute tough cookies during races!

The 5:30 a.m. call time for training was a struggle at first, but after the first two weeks, my body clock just knew when to wake up. I have to admit, it feels absolutely refreshing to paddle in the morning (not because of the water, but because of the people).

I was still a wee bit awkward with acting around my teammates at first though, but it didn't last long since everyone was so approachable. I guess the after-training "Introduce yourself to newbies" session helped a lot. Name, ID number, Course. Clockwise/counter-clockwise.

Well, I won't lie to you and say that it's all smiles and fun. It's still a team competing in a sport; a water sport. So it definitely entails hardwork and dedication. I didn't know how to feel at first, but the sport kind of grows on you, I guess.

The Camsur International Dragon Boat Festival last October 2010 was my first time to race with the team. I was deemed "ready", which, as a result, had placed my name in the line up for the women's crew.

Months and months of training, until we came to that day. My first dragonboat race.

Count to 4 from the front, that's me. Hehe.

It was thrilling, exhausting, and absolutely memorable! I was told "CamSur races" are always fun, and to have that experience as my first race, I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Above all, despite the hardships, sweat and blood (literally and figuratively), the most calming feeling is to have the team just be there. One team. One stroke. One animo.

And now, for my readers from CSB and DLSU, I encourage you all to join the DLSU Dragonboat team especially if you're looking for something different to try out. It's not only a team, it's a family. I cannot emphasize enough how much these people will care about their teammates. It's absolutely heart-melting!

What's one thing people would be surprised to know about me?

When someone who knows me as a "fashion blogger" asks me what's one thing people would be surprised to know about me, I always answer with, "I'm a paddler for the DLSU Dragonboat team." And more often than not, I would get looks of shock or "Are you serious???" I guess dressing up the way I do and blogging about fashion among other girly things don't really make me appear to be the "type" to join such an intense sport. But I did, and I am... a paddler.

Now for those of you curious enough, the DLSU Dragonboat team is currently holding their recruitment week. Students from DLSU and CSB are highly encouraged to join! :)

And just to get you more convinced and excited about it, let me just give you a few fun reasons why you should join:

1. Be a part of something bigger than yourself.

2. Meet true friends.

3. Be physically fit and get to wear super angas rash guards. SWAG.

4. Meet awesome sports buffs/celebrities like Marc Nelson (hot!!!)... and maybe even be recognized?

5. Surprise people! It really is priceless to see the looks on people's faces when they see me go from...

Princess to paddler? Hahaha!

So there you have it. Just a few of the reasons why you should join the DLSU Dragonboat team! :) Of course there's more... but you'll just have to find those out for yourself. ;) SO GO AND JOIN! No experience needed. I honestly didn't know how to row at first. The officers are friendly and they make sure each member of the team is given the right attention so that he/she will learn the techniques of the sport.

What went down at the Up & Coming

Meg Magazine's Up & Coming: Fashion Bloggers Night

Attended Meg Magazine's Up & Coming: Fashion Bloggers Night, held at KYSS in Makati, which featured Manila's top fashion bloggers, Camille Co and Laureen Uy. During which, they also gave the crowd a teaser of their fashion brands--Coexist by Camille Co and Style Break by Laureen Uy, modelled by fellow fashion bloggers Kryz Uy, Lissa Kahayon and Patricia Prieto. So many big names in one night!

I wore my leopard maxi once again to give my outfit the extra oomph. You've seen this as a dress and as a maxi skirt. And now, to make things more interesting, I transformed it into a mullet skirt! What's that?

This is still a dress, by the way. I just zipped it halfway, tucked in the top part and also pulled up the front of the dress to achieve the mullet style. Secured it with a wide belt to hide the tricks, and voila! ;)

Hmm... maybe I should start a DIY segment for things like this. What do you think?

Played with prints and textures in this number. Finally got to wear my lace top from Calliope that mom bought a couple of months back. I haven't found the perfect occasion to wear this to until last Friday and people really liked it. I also have this in blue and I'm already thinking of how I'll style that one.

And that lovely, statement piece of jewelry right there is an inspired arty ring that I just recently won from Not Your Ordinary Beauty Queen's Eight Weeks Of Christmas Giveaway. Isn't it just gorgeous? It can easily transition from classy to edgy and maybe even casual! Let's see how that works. Thank you so much to Marianne for sending this over! :) I am beyond ecstatic to have this as an addition to my ever-growing ring collection!

I'll be sure to wear this a lot together with my outfits in future posts, so don't be surprised if the rock hasn't left my finger. Hee!

Thoughts?

How's everyone doing? I just wanted to get your thoughts on this new header because personally, I like it. It's just that I think there's something lacking or the positioning of things is off. Whatever it is, I can't put my finger on it and I thought maybe you'd be able to. :-?

And since I haven't worked with CSS for such a long time, I'm struggling to figure out how I can position this navigation bar (which is a Blogger preset) to the middle. Because it looks so sloppy on the left side there. :(

Any help relating to this would really be amazing!

Anyway, we're picking up our friend from Australia tonight because she's in town for a while. Can't wait for that!! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Casual Thursday

Walked around Ayala {in a corpo attire} and tired myself out.

Post-job interview [slash] pamper afternoon, I slipped into a comfier ensemble and decided to take my new shoes for a stroll. I believe it was a well-deserved time of relaxation as we are nearing the end of this week. So much has happened, and I’m looking forward to what is to come.

Went for a light outfit by wearing a tube dress and topping it with a sheer long vest/topper. Decided to use the bag for a pop of color and the leopard printed flats for a romantic chic look.

Had a quick meeting in the morning and then met R during his lunch break and after work. Sometimes I’d like to think I belong in the Fort. I guess when it comes to work, that would be my ideal place just because I like the feeling of being able to walk around feeling like it’s our own concrete jungle.

One Bad Night At Omakase

Last Saturday, R and I ate at Omakase in Ayala Triangle after his work. We both loved Omakase since the day we first tried it—I had R try it out about a year ago when I brought him to dinner with my high school friends. Love at first bite, definitely!

By the way, that's correctly spelled. The angle from where I took the photo just cut out the "e" in "cuisine"

But the experience we had this time was very disappointing. Ayala Triangle was packed, as expected, being that it’s Christmas season and everything. They had their usual display of lights and sounds, and their lane of restaurants overflowing with customers. So you basically get the picture, right?

It is very understandable that we’d have to wait in line for a while before we got seated and everything. But it wasn’t the time that was the problem, nor was it exactly the food {except for the Spicy Tuna Salad we ordered}… it was the service. I love Omakase and everything, but that’s the thing—we’ve both eaten in their branches in Alabang, Greenhills and Ayala Triangle and have never experienced any problem since last Saturday.

From the moment we had our name on the waiting list, we both tried our best to keep our composure because the hostess wasn’t smiling at all and seemed quite unapproachable. I’m sure they’re all stressed about the number of people they are trying to accommodate, but at least make sure that you seem approachable. After all, if you aren’t, you won’t have any customers.

Then when we got our order, we noticed the serving size of the Spicy Tuna Salad was smaller than usual—and it didn’t look like it was done in purpose though because the American Dream and California Crunch still looked the same. As we got into eating the Spicy Tuna Salad, we found it rather oilier than usual. The thing was literally like a soup! Of course we didn’t find that out until we reached the bottom, eating at least ¼ of it. So we asked if we could have it changed/replaced, and this female server had the nerve to tell us, “Sir, dapat kanina niyo pa po sinabi.” {Sir, you should have said something earlier.} Keeping my composure, I just said inside my head, “Eh hindi naman namin hinuhukay muna yung ilalim bago namin kainin diba.” {But we don’t dig through the food first before eating, you know?} She said she’ll report the concern {without even smiling or apologizing}, but we never heard back from her. We had to report it again to a different personnel, who was more accommodating and was able to replace our dish.

I’m sorry for ranting about it, but I would just like to receive the quality service that we are paying for. If you’re an employee and you know that it’s peak season, you should already know that you have to prepare yourself for the busy hours ahead. Especially in the food/restaurant industry, you represent the name of the restaurant to thousands of people each day. You don’t know which ones are only trying the place for the first time and which ones are regulars. Especially for the new customers, their first time experience will dictate their decision whether to go back and recommend the place to their friends, and say no and share their bad experience.

Good thing I am a regular and I understand that that might have just been a bad night for everyone. I still love Omakase and would still recommend it to my friends. Hopefully, the next time we return, there won’t be any more problems.

This is what I wore to an afternoon spent in an office in Makati. What am I doing there, you might ask? Or so I’d like to think you’re wondering. Haha! I was actually called for a job interview and exam. Results went well and I am thinking about the offer. No commitments yet because I’ve got a lot of things to consider. Not really sure if that’s my place.
